Understanding The Tumescent Liposuction Procedure

One liposuction procedure that stands out and has been recognized world wide as the technique with the greatest amount of safety, the fastest recovery, the least amount of pain and of course the best results is the Tumescent liposuction method. If you are attempting to make an informed decision about surgery, then it requires that you feel confident in your understanding of the procedure and this one is fairly easy to grasp.

Liposuction is often referred to as body sculpture and is heralded as a dream come true. If you have localized areas of accumulated fat that even dieting and exercising will not remove, then it is likely an inherited trait, which until recently you were stuck with no matter what.

Liposuction surgery has made tremendous strides since its inception, such as being able to perform the procedure in an outpatient operation center rather than a hospital. A great plus for the Tumescent procedure is that most patients will be able to walk out of the center or doctors office within 30 minutes after the procedure and should be able to go back to work within a day or two.

It is also interesting to note that for both women and men this is a very popular choice. In women, the most commonly treated areas for liposuction procedures are the abdomen, thighs, knees, hips, calves and ankles. Chin liposuction has also become popular. For men, the most commonly treated areas are “love handles,” the abdomen, breast and the chin, as well as neck liposuction.

The body fat of an adult usually increases gradually over the years and normally after the age of 30 much of the fat is the result of a genetically predetermined pattern. Unfortunately, this fat distribution tends to be resistant to exercising and dieting. For many individuals who have inherited this trait a liposuction procedure is the only realistic means of changing their body.

Fat cells that are removed during liposuction do not grow back. As long as you do not gain an excessive amount of weight, the results are permanent. If there is one complaint that most patients have in common, then it is the fact that due to post surgical swelling the ultimate results normally require 12 to 16 weeks to become completely apparent.

Many surgeries require the use of general anesthesia, which may result in complications and nausea. However, the Tumescent liposuction technique gathers much of its popularity by using local anesthesia only. Most patients claim that there is less pain involved when a local anesthesia is used.

As with any surgical procedure, liposuction operation is associated with some common side-effects, such as bruising, temporary numbness and swelling. And while some irregularities of the skin are possible after liposuction, this side-effect is minimized, along with other side-effects like infections, bleeding and nerve injury by using the Tumescent technique. Perhaps one of the most appealing aspects of this procedure is the minimal downtime involved, which those individuals with busy lifestyles really appreciate.

After surgery for liposuction using general anesthesia, a patient may experience nausea and pain. Using local anesthesia during Tumescent liposuction produces virtually no blood loss and little to no nausea.

Because it does take some extra time to locally inject the anesthesia, a patient may remain on the surgical table longer than someone who had general anesthesia administered. Fortunately, the recovery time after a Tumescent surgery is shorter that one using general anesthesia so the time spent is still pretty much the same.

Some body parts require liposuction more than other parts. Not all body parts qualify for a liposuction procedure, too. Aside from common liposuction areas like your hips, thighs and abdomen, you can also ask your doctor to perform a neck liposuction. What does this procedure involve?

Our face is the first thing that people notice about us. Your neck however also becomes a point for observation because of its closeness to the face. When we reach ages above thirty, we often notice changes in this part of our bodies. Sometimes even exercise and diet will not be able to reduce the fatty thickening of the neck. You may therefore choose to simply cover up with special clothes and accessories to hide your neck of your can choose to undergo neck liposuction. A good neck liposuction procedure will be able to fix your double chin problem.

The Consulation

During consultation, it’s best to tell your surgeon your goals for planning to undergo a liposuction. A surgeon would then typically explain what will happen during the procedure and whether your expectations are realistic. You should also make sure to ask about possible risks involved in the procedure.

Just as in any liposuction procedure, your doctor should first assess your fitness as a candidate for neck liposuction. Age, skin elasticity, emotional stability and physical health are crucial factors in determining your eligibility for neck liposuction. Older people with sagging skin, people with poor skin elasticity and those with serious diseases or medical conditions may not be good candidates for this procedure.

Procedure

First, your surgeon will make incision marks either under the chin or behind ear lobes for your neck liposuction. A cannula will then be inserted and will suck out the excess fat through a tube and vacuum pump. To reduce fluid loss and reduction an intravenous line will supply you with sufficient fluids. During the procedure your surgeon may give you local anesthesia paired with a sedative or general anesthesia depending on your condition and preference. The neck liposuction procedure may last for an hour.

What To Expect?

As with all other types of liposuction, there will be some bruising, numbness, bleeding, swelling and pain after neck liposuction. You may be taken in only as an outpatient though and will be allowed to go home after a few hours. You may actually have a sore neck for several weeks and you may be required to wear a neck compressor for a few weeks as you recuperate.

Once your neck liposuction is healed, you may notice excess skin and skin sagging. This is especially true among people with poor skin elasticity. The procedure can do nothing to improve poor skin quality and muscle tone. To prevent unsightly sagging from developing, you should discuss with your surgeon the possibility of combining neck liposuction with a neck lift to remove possible excess skin after the procedure. A combination procedure may be more expensive but it can improve the appearance of firmness of your neck.

Be honest to your doctor about chances of getting an improved, slimmer neck before you undergo the procedure. If you suspect that your skin is no longer elastic then it may be a better idea to stay away from the procedure altogether.
